What is NaNa? Just like the Dada in the 20s, NaNa is nothing and everything. NaNa can be the character in a popular manga, a prostitute in the French Second Empire, a dog in Peter Pan, an Impressionist portrait by Manet, an Afghan war goddess, a species of deciduous tree berries…What is NaNa? The two syllables often confusing to the American audience nonetheless carry myriad meanings in different cultures and languages. This exhibition explores the broad repertoire behind the word NaNa, and seeks to go beyond its existing definitions to reach an imaginative height.
