erasing hierarchies: marz saffore’s honors thesis exhibition

The AsIs Gallery in Sage Art Center is excited to host Erasing Hierarchies, the Honors Thesis Solo Exhibition of Marz Saffore. This work explores Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs through one-on-one interviews between the artist and 53 undergraduate students. Each interview or trial study focuses on and discusses the interviewee’s basic needs (physiology, safety, love and belongingness, esteem, and self-actualization) in a personal, in-depth manner. Marz presents the results of her research through a video comprised of three separate windows, which allows the individual interviews to act as one unit. The viewer is tasked with drawing his or her own conclusions.
