SPECTRUM and AXOM Galleries are pleased to present to the Rochester Community an evening to meet and converse with master photographer, Carl Chiarenza.
The co-curated, retrospective dual exhibition, TRANSMUTATIONS, by Carl Chiarenza, chronicles Chiarenza’s photography from 1979; a pivotal time in in his career, when he shifted from classic documentary style photography to creating abstracted photographic images entirely within his studio.
Chiarenza has much to share about his photographic process and his creative journey through the development of the abstract photography movement. He has experienced and exhibited at one of the first Galleries of Photography to open in the U.S.; the notable Robert Klein Gallery in Boston and had a close association with renown photographer, Aaron Siskin, who was also a founding member of the Visual Studies Workshop.

He has influenced not only the practice of art but also the study and promotion of photography and his work is collected by major museums around the world including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles and the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
