Our inaugural summer residency program is underway. Please welcome our resident artists, Stephanie A

The Art and Art History Department is excited to launch Frontispace Residency, a summer residency program at the University of Rochester for local artists in the Western New York area. Artists spend two to three months experimenting with making and installing new work and are given access to production workshops and gallery spaces across campus. The residency culminates with an exhibition of the artist’s work at Frontispace (the gallery at the entrance of the Art and Music Library) and a reception to have discussions with the community. Our resident artists this summer are Stephanie Ashenfelder and Amos Scully.

Ashenfelder’s digital and artistic scholarship take form in a variety of socially conscious interdisciplinary projects. Through multiple modes of production, Stephanie’s artistic practice investigates the intersection where progress meets failure. Her work originates from a place where glitches, malfunction and happenstance instigate profound consequence. Stephanie teaches courses in studio art and digital media at the University of Rochester where she works as the interim director of Digital Media Studies and the program manager in the Department of Art & Art History.

Scully is an artist, designer and educator creating works of dimensional form in a combination of abstract and representational shapes, surfaces and materials. Working in contemporary installation and large-scale objects his output has been exhibited nationally. Scully also regularly publishes papers on design education at conferences in Europe. He is an Associate Professor teaching Industrial Design at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York since 2003. Scully’s professional practice is collaboration with his wife Stephanie Ashenfelder.

The residency runs June 10 – September 6. Join us for the closing reception on September 6, 2019.
