PLAY/GROUND 2020: 22 Outdoor Art Installations on View Now!

PLAY/GROUND is a platform for site-specific installations by contemporary artists.

PLAY/GROUND 2020 opens today, Friday, September 11 and runs through Sunday, September 20. You can visit the 22 outdoor installations in and around Buffalo, NY, from dawn through dusk, and a few installations are even visible at night.

Installations are centered around several hubs in the Buffalo area: Canalside, Larkinville, Main St. & Delaware, OSC Manufacturing, the Burchfield Penney Art Center & Hotel Henry, UB Anderson Gallery, and ArtPark.

Participating artists include UR Professor Allen Topolski and his daughter Aster Topolski. Their installation, “Residuals,” is on view at ArtPark in Lewiston, NY. It reflects on the intersections between the Topolskis' own work and that of artists who participated in ArtPark's prestigious residency program of the 1970s. QR codes in the doorways to each of 11 concrete slabs where the artists’ cabins used to be relay a bit more about the amazing history of the place. See their work at the Portage Road entrance of ArtPark (450 S 4TH ST, LEWISTON, NY). https://artplaygroundny.com/further-afield

UR Professor Mizin Shin designed the posters for the event and hand-printed them at Mirabo Press. The screen-printed maps will be available at info tents located across the street from Explore & More Children’s Museum, in Larkinville Square, and in front of Hotel Henry.
