A Shift Into @ Frontispace

Frontispace is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by Daniel Melo Morales. Daniel Melo Morales’ practice responds to underlying tensions within political and social institutions by focusing on architectural elements, on-site acoustic systems, and found objects. Morales constructs large-scale photographs and arrange objects which allows them to present familiar objects in unfamiliar manners. Emerging from material and poetic relationships found among an institution’s history and its present form, their works also emerge from their resistance of an institution’s particular influence and values. Reorienting physical space, objects, and acoustics in their images and performances, installing works site-specifically presents a phenomenological opportunity and moment of improvisation in which to reimagine generative futures. Daniel Melo Morales is a first-generation latinx artist and educator. Working in sound, photography, and performance his work unfolds from aurality. He earned a New Genres MFA, with honors, from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BA in English from Kenyon College. Melo Morales has participated in the SOMA Summer CDMX residency, sonsbeek20→24 Summer Institute - Curating Noise: Reverberations and the Polyvocal, as well as the Headlands Center for the Arts’ Affiliate artist program from 2016 through 2019. He is a current member of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures and the US Latinx Art Forum. www.danielmelo.com Exhibition dates: February 23 - March 30, 2023
