The University of Rochester’s Department of Art and Art History is pleased to invite you to its annual senior Studio Art majors group exhibition. An Uncomfortable Comfort will be on view in the ASIS Gallery, Sage Art Center, from November 21 to December 5, 2024.
Students will present individual projects researched and developed throughout the semester in various media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, performance, olfactory art, and installation. With these recent artworks, students address multiple topics and questions, such as self-representation and identity, roots and remembrance in family histories, the imprint of political violence, mental health, sacred spaces, the mother-child bond, and our complex relationship with our bodies. The breadth and scope of the work attest to the diversity of approaches and distinct visions that are the hallmark of the studio art program at the University of Rochester.
A live performance by artist Alexandra Garlock will take place on Thursday, November 21 at 1 p.m. A gallery tour with short artist talks will follow at 2 p.m., and a reception will conclude the event. This event is free and open to all.
Artists in the exhibition: Midas Briggs, Ellie Chung, Catho Fan, Alexandra Garlock, Liam Henry, Jiahui Hou, Alicia Lawson, Ziruo Liu, Charlie McAdow, Janelle McNiff, Dara Rozen, Emily Salman, Fagaye Seck, Ella Smith, and Reece Stallwitz.
