The Natural Center at Frontispace

The Natural Center

Aaron Delehanty Exhibition dates: January 13 - February 17, 2023 Artist Reception: 4-6pm Friday, January 20

Frontispace is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by Aaron Delehanty. Aaron Delehanty’s work ranges from paintings to drawings to sculpture but whatever form the work takes it all looks towards nature- specifically the border between Nature and Mankind.

Nature is everywhere and everything about my work. I use my art practice as a deep dive into investigating and interrogating the concept of nature. I explore ideas about how we humans answer the question “What is Nature?” and the forces that drive human imagination towards a concept of what Nature is. The work presented here at the University of Rochester considers such things as animal statuary, origami animals, dioramas, idols, artifacts and zoos.

Aaron Delehanty is an artist, maker, teacher, painter and all around active citizen of the Art World. He grew up in Rochester but spent half of his life exploring. One can currently find him in Spencerport NY working out of a 2 story barn. His love of art and environmentalism led to a decade-long career as a studio artist in natural history museums working closely with zoologists, botanists, ecologists, and others to make art pieces that communicate science. Today he works independently in his studio, dubbed Loud Cow Studio, working on natural history diorama commissions.

Aaron Delehanty’s work is in the permanent collection of the Field Museum in Chicago, The Rochester Museum and Science Center, Cumming Nature Center, Groton State Forest in Vermont, the Pittsburgh Zoo and M.I.T.. He is currently Adjunct Professor in the College of Art at R.I.T.. His work space- Loud Cow Studio- doubles as an alternative art space hosting curated art exhibits. He has exhibited widely and his work has been featured in New American Paintings and TEDx. A graduate from the Masters program at the San Francisco Art Institute and the bachelor's program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; he lives, works in Spencerport NY.
