Small World Network Model by Mizin Shin is on view now!

The art installation “Small World Network Model,” by Mizin Shin is currently on view through November 20, 2020, in the Art and Music Library’s Frontispace. While the library is currently closed to traffic, the installation may be viewed from the window outside of the library.

Small World Network Model depicts the interwoven relationships of economic and social systems throughout our society. The designs of the globes depict data maps modeling the nature of various networks. While each globe maintains its own level of functional interconnectivity, they also function as subnetworks by casting shadows or redirecting and passing light to the emergence of a macro network.

Born and raised in South Korea, Mizin Shin is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Rochester. Shin's work has been shown regionally and nationally at institutions across the United States. Leading numerous printmaking workshops with several art organizations, Shin focuses on both traditional and contemporary printmaking practices to promote a multidisciplinary approach to the medium. Mizin Shin is a co-founder of Mirabo Press in Buffalo, NY, and vice president of the Print Club of Rochester.
